10 Best Movies Like Maze Runner: Check if you missed out

Suppose you are looking at Movies Like Maze Runner or are a fan of that movie series. Here are some maze runner similar movies with a little recap.

The Maze Runner is a science fiction and adventure film based on James Dashner’s novel of the same title. This movie series is fantastic on several levels and has some meaningful movie content.

All the performers’ emotions are so genuine in these movies. The first film did an excellent job of staying true to the book. Yes, The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, and The Death Cure are novels that served as the basis for the teenage science fiction film series.

The first novel in James Dashner’s Maze Runner series came out in 2009, and the movie followed in 2014. Since you came to view this article, I don’t think I need to discuss the Maze Runner movies.

Movies Similar to The Maze Runner 👇

Also, you find “movies similar to the Maze Runner,” So there are some movies with these concepts that are based on popular stories like The Hunger Games and The Divergent. Still, I won’t discuss them because I believe you have already seen them and because there are many recommendations for those series.

If you want to know more about the “Hunger Games” series, there have been four films released so far: The Hunger Games (2012), Catching Fire (2013), Mockingjay-Part 1 (2014), and Mockingjay-Part 2 (2015).

The Maze Runner and The Hunger Games Movie Series 🤔

The Maze Runner and The Hunger Games
Maze Runne\Hunger Games

The Maze Runner focuses on developing treatments for civilization, The Hunger Games exploits contests to keep the populace under control and head off revolutions.

The high-energy government’s rulers utilize the Hunger Games to exact a deadly tribute from the middle-class laborers in the bordering territories, making them more than just a fight.

The Maze Runner has quite a narrower perspective; it does not expect the governance of the fantastical world to enter its primary scenes. The movie places a group of boys in the middle of a dangerous maze and complicates forcing them to escape.

Both movies contain captivating stories with different concepts Though “The Hunger Games” gets points for personal development, “Maze Runner” has much greater sensory action.

Even while the “Hunger Games” features a high level of physical danger and action-packed contests, it falls short of “Maze Runner.” Since “Maze Runner” features sequences in which the film’s motley hero must face them in a maze, constantly switching structures.

Divergent and The Maze Runner 😁

Divergent and The Maze Runner
Divergent\Maze Runner

There are many similarities between Divergent and The Maze Runner. Moreover, both highlighted how the characters were forced into an unknown world.

In fact, they contain the same storyline of an awful post-apocalyptic world developing in the future and the crazy modification of the manner of living in the same futuristic world.

The Divergent Series features intense romance, whereas The Maze Runner does not—and I like that😁. Both of them are centered on “research projects.”

So, here is my list of “Movies Like Maze Runner.” These are very different from that style, but they contain some similarities, such as a background or concept or a few storyline aspects. I didn’t say they are all exactly like “Maze Runner.” But you’re probably familiar with some of these.

This article may contain some spoilers. I try to avoid giving away important plot details in my reviews.

10. I Am Number Four (2011)

I Am Number Four Movie Image

I Am Number Four is a solid version of the teen novel. Yet, sadly its short duration limits it from being outstanding. The film follows Four, a stranger from a planet living on the run from an enemy race of aliens.

The story has a good blend of science fiction, coming-of-age drama, and romance. The early half of the film does a fair job of compressing the novel, but it misses out on many novel parts in others.

There is some decent music that blends well with the movie. The movie scored 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, and IMDB gave it a 6.1/10. I don’t think it’s a great film, but it wasn’t as awful as many reviewers state since it has a few failures.

Director D.J. Caruso previously directed the films Taking Lives, Disturbia, and Eagle Eye. The acting of Teresa Palmer, Timothy Olyphant, and Alex Pettyfer is fine.

I Am Number Four is very different from “Maze Runner,” but it shares some concepts movie like Maze Runner. But if you like these kinds of movies, this is fine. It’s not perfect, but it’s entertaining enough. 😕

9. Equilibrium (2002)

Equilibrium 2002 Movie Image

The action and science fiction movie “Equilibrium” is set years ahead. Since no one is allowed to feel emotions or own historical things like books, artwork, or entertainment, everyone in the country must inject oneself with medicine that inhibits feelings.

I won’t say much more because that is the summation of the film. The plot of the movie is not complicated or a puzzle. Equilibrium succeeds in winning cast, modern movement and structure, and a captivating storyline.

As usual, Christian Bale performs brilliantly. Taye Diggs and Emily Watson both do well. Kurt Wimmer didn’t direct many films but wrote good ones, including The Recruit, Street Kings, Law Abiding Citizen, Salt, Point Break, and a few more.

I noted people comparing this movie to The Matrix; that was silly because of the entirely different storyline and concept; equilibrium is not touched for the simulation.

It’s clear that it’s not the same as “The Maze Runner”; it’s not as comprehensive or tech-savvy. But, I think it was made with similar sincere intentions. 🙄

To enjoy this sci-fi film, you don’t need to be a fan of “Maze Runner.” I recommend it to everyone because it includes profoundly emotional concepts beyond simple entertainment.

8. In time (2011)

 In time (2011) movie image

This film has a profound concept that causes people to ask specific questions. like,

  • Is time more valuable than people recognize? 🤔
  • How about using time as currency? 🤪

After having watched it, you may have your thoughts. Even so, there is a statement that is deeply integrated into civilization. It highlights economic and political unfairness, violence, and social inequality.

Film recap is an insensitive system in which the poor have little time to live while the rich can live a long life. In some ways, this emphasizes the value of time in real life.

“In Time” is not a puzzle movie, nor is it complicated. Still, even if the story gets weird sometimes, it’s often an exciting and captivating storyline.

Andrew Niccol, director of ” In Time,” is adept in works of this kind, including Gattaca, The Truman Show, Simone, The Host, and others. Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake’s performances are okay, even good Alex Pettyfer and Cillian Murphy’s.

If you are familiar with ” Maze Runner,” I think this movie fits you. Compared to “Maze Runner,” the concept is entirely different. Still, some science theories have a similar side maze runner similar movies.

7. Elysium (2013)

Elysium 2013 Movie Image

Even though most people dislike the “Elysium,” you can still enjoy it if you recognize the complaints. This movie is a logical progression from the rough, intense, and highly political tones.

The second movie, directed by Neil Blomkamp, has created notable films, including District 9 and Chapie. Neill Blomkamp explored District 9, and Elysium share many similarities; both backgrounds are awful that face many uncomfortable facts via the thin cover of science fiction.

The Future of the World is the theme of this movie. It tells the story of wealthy people who live in a safe space station named Elysium and poor people who live in a world that has been shattered.

That sounds crazy. Yes, it is similar to other dystopian sci-fi, but if things keep going the way they are, this scene portrays what life will be like for people in the future. Matt Damon and Jodie Foster deliver excellent performances representing their work.

Although the tale is entirely different from “The Maze Runner,” there are some similarities, such as fightback, experiments, health, and other things. I think you will enjoy this fiction film, whether you like Maze Runner or “Maze Runner similar movies.”

6. Serenity (2005)

Serenity (2005) Movie Image - movies like the maze runner
Syfy

That sounds crazy; maybe you think how similar “Serenity” is to ” Maze Runn.” Yeah, of course, not the same.😶 I don’t want to give the same movies as you think.

Too short, this film is a sequel to the television series “Firefly.” but “Serenity” is like a movie from Star Wars or Star Trek. But some subtle elements are familiar with Maze Runner, like the crew.

This movie follows the TV show “Firefly,” cut far too brief. The production design, lighting, visual effects, and soundtrack are all nicely done on a limited budget.

The pilot fulfills its purpose by developing a sense of the galaxy epic with music, scenery, and cinematography, but without exposing many details about the galaxy.

I think that it’s not required to watch Firefly. The film does a fine job laying a foundation for understanding the necessary information. But if you haven’t watched it, there are fourteen stunning episodes.

The director of “Serenity,” Joss Whedon, is also the screenwriter for Toy Story and “Alien Resurrection.” So it should be no surprise that he even directed and wrote the screenplays for “The Avengers” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

As a fan of “Maze Runner,” I think you should watch this movie because chances are you’ll connect with it. It elements of civilization related to “Maze Runner,” but the story is different in at least one significant way. Also, the technical aspects have similar.

Hence, I strongly recommend this underrated space movie with good cinematography and not as dull as some of these movies. 👉 Read my article Underrated Twisted Thriller Movies.

5. I Am Legend (2007)

I Am Legend (2007) Movie Image - maze runner similar movies

Naturally, this film is not the same as Maze Runner, although several Apocalypse-related parts are the same. Has a backstory similar either to a post-apocalypse movie.

But this film is really a one-man performance. Will Smith made an incredibly decent response as a man on the edge, sometimes going over the edge while having periods of intense mental insight.

Possibly, there is some dullness, viruses, zombies, and not many activities. There are also some excellent visual elements and fantastic cinematography.

I Am Legend movie from my own words. After a deadly pandemic annihilates the entire globe, the idea of being the last man standing in Town. Will Smith’s character, Robert Neville, battles to stay while continuing to seek a solution. He also keeps a journal of his studies and travels throughout the city.

Francis Lawrence only directed “Constantine” before directing “I Am Legend.” Still after that, he also directed “Red Sparrow” and three Hunger Games films.

The lonely scene, sharp sound, and unsettling suspense created a superb execution of the film’s gripping component. The movie has a mix of horror, thriller, science fiction, and apocalyptic themes like Movies Like Maze Runner.

4. Escape Room (2019)

You can expect the ending to be obvious, much like in every other parallel film. Each character’s backstory helps the audience to understand the origin and attitude.

Some behave self-centered and threaten others to rescue themselves. It is challenging for the audience to choose which side to trust. The storyline developed their understanding of many of the character’s traumas.

Even better, the game designer tried to exploit these flaws against the group to highlight how rotten such things are. It makes fear, and the movie’s concept is enjoyable and has exciting ideas like an upside-down room.

“Briefly stated, Escape Room follows six individuals who have been invited to the chance to win $10,000. Each room is designed to destroy them and yet prevent their escape. “

I don’t want to give anything away because the movie isn’t very long and easy to understand. A plot similar to a videogame but with its own creativity and uniqueness.

Taylor Russell, Deborah Ann Woll, Jay Ellis, and the rest of the cast do well. Adam Robitel directed the Escape Room Movie. He also directed “Insidious: The Last Key.” Writer of “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” as well.

“Escape Room: Tournament of Champions,” a follow-up to the movie, was recently released. The Escape Room has less activity than the Maze Runner. It, though, includes some humorous, thrilling, and scary storylines. The low-budget movie”Escape Room” costs just 9 million dollars.

Yet, it’s difficult to compare because Maze Runner costs $34 million. I can’t complain about a $9 million movie but have some aspects of movies similar to The Maze Runner.

3. Oblivion (2013)

Another great sci-fi that is entertaining and presents some thought-provoking concerns. Since the focus is more on the characters than the storyline, Tom Cruise is at the center of everything. The movie is stunning and was made with extra attention.

The epic story is set on a planet that has been destroyed by an exoplanet battle. It follows two characters as they work as power gatherers there for a while before being forced to leave for the new human civilization.

The best aspects of this movie are its visual effects, camera work, and scenery. It is an artwork that has been skillfully executed in every possible way.

It is difficult to believe that this is Joseph Kosinski’s second film; his first, “Tron: Legacy,” is not just fantastic but also entertaining. He did a tremendous job directing “Top Gun: Maverick” recently.

The movie takes time to adequately explain its secrets. Still, of course, not everything is as it seems at first. Secondly, the film’s cinematography is probably its most vital point. Every shot is stunning, and it has some significant visual effects.

I won’t provide more detail about the storyline. It is difficult without giving away big plot surprises, which is a tragic mistake. This movie has several incredibly unexpected surprises. As always, I don’t need to mention that Tom Cruise gave a solid performance.

The story is the only thing that still stands out about this movie; the visuals are similar to “Maze Runner.” But the story is not the same; perhaps some elements are better than in movies like Maze Runner.

The ending scene in these stories about a person who has lost everything suddenly returning is always uplifting, but this end is unique from that.

2. Alita: Battle Angel (2019)

Alita: Battle Angel (2019) Movie Image - Movies Like Maze Runner
-20thcenturystudios

A Magnificent Sci-Fi Adventure with a Generous Heart and Powerful Strokes The visual effects are essential to this film since the other elements would collapse without them.

To experience the full effect of the movie, you must see it on this large 3D screen. Even though the effects on Alita aren’t ideal, they do their level best.

Alita is a delight that perfectly captures the unique design style of the original material using cutting-edge technologies. The story is faulty, but as a continuous story adaptation, it is a piece of genius.

Yes, it is crazy, with characters and emotions rising up on top of one another at a fast pace. Still, well-planned madness successfully hits the highest peak of everything together at the conclusion.

This film has a lot of interesting aspects, such as incredible battle scenes, fantastic special effects, gory cyborgs, and quiet Terminator physical dread. But the lead character of Alita and Rosa Salazar’s excellent portrayal of her make it all come together and propel it to something incredible.

Robert Rodriguez is a talented filmmaker who succeeds at making films of this nature. His earlier work, including Desperado, the Spy Kids Film Series, Sin City, Machete, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and a variety of other films, provides evidence of this.

It has fantastic visual effects and world-building. Alita: Battle Angel received a 7.1 on IMDb, a 63 % on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 53 % on Metacritic. Also, excellent audience responses.

If you like sci-fi, action, adventure, and movies with robots like Robocop, Terminator, and movies similar to the maze runner, “Alita: Battle Angel” is for you.

1. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Tom Hardy In Mad Max Fury Road
Warner Bros

Mad Max: Fury Road is a post-apocalyptic action film set in a wild wasteland that might be affected by human activity in the era. It appears to be nothing more than a road trip with a few combat scenes, vehicles, weird makeup, and pretty girls, but it is more than that. Indeed, there is clever and deep meaning in the film.

Mad Max: Fury Road” is among my top ten favorite films. The film features a fantastic background and gorgeous dry views. The cast frequently used close-up action shots to portray their feelings.

Combined digitally created and video mixed, it picks up on fine detail and continues the color on characters’ skins to make the battle sequences look genuine.

This film has a complex storyline for the points I described earlier. Yet, since the visualization so effectively catches the concept and emotion, it wasn’t too difficult to comprehend. Additionally, the color tuning of the movie displays the actual climate of the wasteland.

Also, the plot was well-arranged to fit a who wants to try something new style and musical elements. Ultimately, Mad Max is a solid film with insightful social criticism.

When “Fury Road” and “Maze Runner” are compared, the stories are significantly different, and “Fury Road” succeeds in all aspects of the film.

Fury Road is an apocalyptic fiction film, whereas “Maze Runner” is a science fiction film. Although both contain the same elements, such as cultural criticism from the story movies similar to Maze Runner,

The previous “Mad Max” movies were also directed by George Miller, who is most known for this. The performances by Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron were exceptional. Hugh Keays-Byrne and Nicholas Hoult were also impressive.

Also, the film receives high marks from critics and audiences alike, with a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.1 on IMDb, as well as 4+ ratings on audience review sites like “letterboxd.” If you are a fan of “Maze Runner,” I highly recommend “Mad Max: Fury Road” I think you are familiar with more than
