Welcome to my list of movies about hope.

Hope is a powerful force. It motivates us to achieve the obviously unimaginable and keeps us going through difficult moments. So hope may come in a variety of stuff. It might be from music, a novel, or an about hope movie.

Here are some well-known quotes about hope. 👇

Learn from yesterday, live for today, and hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Albert Einstein

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Hope is the desire for success that betters your life in some aspect. It not only helps to make a challenging situation better at the moment. But it can also improve our lives in the long run as hope for a brighter life encourages effort.

I made a list of movies about hope across multiple genres. There are probably many films with profound themes in other countries, too.

Movies About Hope to Inspire You

Movies about hope are worth watching because hope is a part of people’s lives, whether we recognize it or not. Anyone wishes for something. Hope encourages us to choose what we intend for our lives and is a part of the soul of our experiences that we all have rolling in our heads.

Some features of the movies about hope have the potential to influence people’s lives. Thus according to study facts, those films are more significant than average in helping the perception of a complicated situation.

This article may include a few spoilers, but I tried to keep them to a minimum.

So here is my list of movies about the hope I’ve watched.

The Martian (2015)

Matt Damon in The Martian (2015)

Ridley Scott’s The Martian is a science fiction film featuring Matt Damon. Based on Andy Weir’s 2011 novel of the same name. Matt Damon has always done an excellent job, and Jessica Chastain and the rest of the supporting cast did well.

The film’s more serious, balanced, and realistic approach to the sci-fi genre works perfectly. Don’t expect Star Wars or any movie with light guns, space travel, machines, etc. from this. So, why did I put movies about hope on my list?

Because it’s an exciting and meticulously realistic story about surviving in outer space, so consistently, there is hope.

When astronauts take out from Mars, they leave behind Mark (Matt Damon), who was thought dead after a massive storm. With only a few resources, he should depend on his intelligence and grit to live on a hostile planet. While back on Earth, NASA and international scientists worked hard to take him home. His crew members prepare for their dangerous recovery effort.

So the movie is realistic, and you can see Mars activities and actual science concepts.

Ridley Scott is a giant in the sci-fi industry, best known for his work on Alien, Blade Runner, Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, and other award-winning films.

The music wonderfully reflects a person in this situation’s mental and emotional condition. The uplifting tune is just his thoughts trying to wipe away the sense that you may die here.

So, this is the flick for you if you haven’t watched it yet, like genuine sci-fi movies, or want to pass two and a half hours. Related Parallel Universe Movies.

Lion (2016)

Dev Patel and Sunny Pawar in Lion (2016 film)

This is an excellent example of movies about hope.

Lion is a film about Saroo Brierley, adopted by an Australian family after being split from his family at the age of 5. But, after twenty-five years, he travels to India to discover his biological mother.

The best part about this story is that it truly happened. Dev Patel’s representation of Saroo was outstanding; he inspired a genuine reaction from the audience.

So it provides a long, substantial emotional imprint with a beautiful masterwork. Also, great performances from Nicole Kidman and David Wenham as his adopted parents. Sunny Pawar as Little Saroo gives an outstanding performance.

This film is super inspirational and will make you cry, among its many defining characteristics. Plus, it shows that you should never give up hope, even as you age.

I’m unsure how to describe it; you can touch it; the film isn’t fiction or comic.

1917 (2019)

Sam Mendes produced and directed the historical war film 1917.

Following two British troops, Will (George MacKay) and Tom (Dean-Charles), on their task to send a critical message to call off a deadly aggressive attack. George Mackay and Dean Chapman both give outstanding performances.

After Saving Private Ryan, this is the best war movie I’ve watched.

1917 received 10 Oscar nominations, and three won for Best Cinematography, Visual Effects, and Sound Mixing. A masterpiece by Sam Mendes, its camera moves constantly and sometimes loops around throughout the film. Still, it does not freeze as a signal for the story’s purpose of reaching the target on time and not stopping the ride.

There have been mind-blowing sequences, which I feel are the worst, inside a military truck, where Will sits with a few soldiers involved in the discussion. The lens is generally centered on Will because you can’t take your eyes off Will.

Throughout the film, the story keeps pace, making you think and be on the edge of your seats in all conditions. There isn’t anything more I can add. 1917 is unquestionably a classic, and I recommend everyone to see it!

Hope can still save your life.

Changeling (2008)

Angelina Jolie IN Changeling (2008)

Changeling is a mystery crime drama film directed, produced, and scored by Clint Eastwood. The story was based on real-life events, California’s 1928 “Wineville Chicken Coop Murders.” Yes, it is an underrated Thriller Movie.

A mother tries to confront an inefficient deception law with fraud over her missing son. Wherever mothers are, there is always hope.

What’s truly interesting about this movie is that it shows how corrupted and unjust the system can be. That might happen in the past and even today, notably with law enforcement groups that may use their authority without constraint.

Angelina Jolie shines as Christine Collins. It’s frightening to think about what might have happened to the real Christine if the case hadn’t been discovered. Other cast members include John Malkovich, Michael Kelly, and Jeffrey Donovan.

This film has several highs and lows that make you feel like you’re living the characters’ lives. It forces you to experience what they would have experienced. It makes you think about how life is for some people and how it affects the lives of others who care about them. There is no need to debate Eastwood, as he always gives his best.

Changeling is an excellent example of touching movies about hope.

Zootopia (2016)

iMAGE OF Zootopia (2016)

Zootopia was Disney’s best-animated feature after 2000. It is one of the animated movies about hope. This film follows Judy Hopps as she tries to become the first and only bunny cop. Zootopia is primarily dealing with racism.

Hopps is a little bunny that aspires to be a cop. Everyone tells her she can’t because she’s JUST a bunny. Zootopia is a challenging topic for children to understand.

Judy Hopps never gives up on her dreams because she always has hope for it. It tells them that judging anyone simply on their characteristics is incorrect. You have a choice: either grip the key and take control of your life, or you don’t.

It is usual for us to be scared, which is normal. But, if fear controls us, we start to doubt ourselves and destroy ourselves. So think outside the norm and go to your familiar setting because life is good if you give it a chance.

Put up your effort if you need stuff. Start with you and work your way up by impacting the minds of others around you. There will always be positives and negatives in life.

Those are my thoughts on this film.

It isn’t only for children; there are lots of encouraging stuff for everyone.

The Theory of Everything (2014)

This award-winning film is about Stephen Hawking and his wife, Jane Hawking, and their life experiences. Anthony McCarten adapted this one from Jane Hawking’s biography, Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen.

James Marsh is the director. Five Academy Award nominations were received for the movie, and Redmayne won for Best Actor. Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking is phenomenal; I cannot imagine anybody else in that role. Felicity Jones, as Jane Hawking, does an outstanding job.

Stephen Hawking is a figure that proves that no matter what your situation or struggles are, you can achieve great things. Read Deep Meaningful Movies About Life.

This is a quote from his best suit for the moment.

“However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. Where there’s life, there’s hope.”

Stephen Hawking

I can only tell you just to watch this about hope movie.

The Aviator (2004)

Leonardo DiCaprio IN The Aviator

The Aviator is another biographical movie combination between Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. Based on Charles Higham’s “Howard Hughes: The Secret Life.”

The story of Howard Hughes, an aircraft developer and director of the movie Hell’s Angels. The film portrayed Hughes’ life when he became a famous movie producer and airplane entrepreneur, even while becoming more disturbed due to severe obsessive-compulsive disorder.

He had several flying accidents but never felt scared because of his purpose and hopes. Yet, he knows that his mental state has made it difficult for him to continue his business tactics and for his competition to gain an edge.

“I want to be remembered for only one thing: my contribution to aviation.”

Howard Hughes

The outstanding performances by DiCaprio, Blanchett and Beckinsale make this well worth, with Hughes’ relative character development.

The Departed, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street are just a few of Leo and Martin Scorsese’s cutting-edge films. Also, add The Aviator to your watch list of movies about hope.

Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Million Dollar Baby is an award-winning, Thought-provoking Movie with seven Oscar nominations and won four, including Best Picture, Director, Actress, and Supporting Actor. Clint Eastwood directed, composed, and featured in this film adapted from stories from the book “Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner” by Jerry Boyd.

Eastwood indeed sacrifices everything to make this movie more uplifting and emotional. Swank and Freeman both gave outstanding performances in this film.

One of the most touching films and a stunning sports cinematic classic. The story’s protagonist is a boxing coach who grows a young, tough girl into a strong opponent.

I wish there was a happy ending to this, but I think the filmmakers knew exactly what to do with it and gave it a sad ending to show that girl had done what she needed to do. Sometimes you have to make a difficult choice for the individual you value, and you have to deal with the consequences for the rest of your life.

So the film begins with hope and ends with sadness, and I feel you will enjoy it.

Gravity (2013)

Sandra Bullock in Gravity 2013

Gravity is a science fiction thriller film directed by Alfonso Cuaron.

Yes, it’s another Martian-style film, but the story and setting are always different. It stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as American astronauts left in space when their spaceship is damaged in mid-orbit, and they struggle to return to Earth. Sandra Bullock simply surpassed all hopes.

The cinematography is just stunning. It is one of the most challenging situations a person could be in, with much more terrible causes. And there is always hope.

I like these movies because they have more realistic science-based storylines than fantasy ones. I am a huge fan of “Star Wars,” but I also enjoy movies like Gravity, The Martian, Interstellar, and others.

Gravity got ten Oscar nominations and won seven, including Best Director, Cinematography, and Visual Effects. If you’re wondering about reviewing this film, there’s no question. Go catch it! You will not regret it.

Cast Away (2000)

Cast Away is another survival film directed and co-produced by Robert Zemeckis and featuring Tom Hanks.

Hanks portrays a FedEx technician trapped on an unknown island in the Pacific when his plane crashes. The story focuses on his dramatic efforts to live and come back home.

Yes, this is a one-man show from Tom Hanks. At the Academy Awards, Hanks’ portrayal was nominated for Best Actor. But it goes to Russell Crowe for Gladiator.

Still, the film is full of emotions and sentiments. Hanks never fails to dazzle with his body, engaging and gripping performances. It takes you on an emotional adventure and will have you falling in line with the character on many stages. It started slowly but quickly became exciting.

We have no idea of loneliness, no matter how introverted we are. You can see loneliness, sadness, and inspirational stuff in this movie. This is a brilliant example of “Movies About Loneliness” and how you can continue even after losing everything.

In the Heart of the Sea (2015)

In the Heart of the Sea Movie

Ron Howard is the director and producer of the Survival historical drama In the Heart of the Sea. It is based on a factual book with the same title by Nathaniel Philbrick. The 1820 disaster of the American whaling ship Essex served as some of the inspiration for Herman Melville’s 1851 novel Moby-Dick.

If there is a survivor story, there is always hope.

This is not a critic’s favorite or a box office success. Still, everything is fine if you look at the movie’s core, cinematography, performance, and natural state of the time. I don’t understand why some people reject watching it.

Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, and Holland performed excellently. The music was composed by Roque Baos and was well suited to the situation.

Ron Howard is a legendary director who has previously directed Backdraft, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind (my favorite), The Da Vinci Code, and others.

So, forget the criticism; watch this adventure; you will not be disappointed.

50/50 (2011)

Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt In the film 50/50
Source: Everymoviehasalesson

In the film 50/50, Adam is a broadcast journalist whose life is flipped on its head after being diagnosed with spine cancer.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt does an excellent job of showing a cancer sufferer’s sad and helpless mindset. But also presents the uplifting, positive, and cheerful hope possible if you don’t focus on the only terrible thing.

Every cancer-survival film always carries the risk of becoming emotional. Also, any patient with any illness, including us, does have hope.

Suppose life deals you sudden awful news, such as a cancer scare. In that case, you never know how anyone, including ourselves, will respond. Every person and every scenario is different. But how you deal with it, take it. Those that keep their positivism and even their health.

However, the plot of 50/50 is highly realistic and honest. Its conversation and execution seem real. Seth Rogen plays Kyle, his best buddy, who sticks with him thick and sound but with a touch of selfishness. Overall, an up-and-down film with sadness, reality, and some comedy with Seth Rogen. There is also a happy ending.

Wild (2014)

Reese Witherspoon in Wild (2014)

Wild is a Jean-Marc Vallée-directed adventure drama featuring Reese Witherspoon. Reese Witherspoon is nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for her brilliant performance.

Nick Hornby adapted the script from Cheryl Strayed‘s Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, which is about a lone hiker’s journey on the trail after a series of personal struggles. That turned her life upside down.

It reminds us of how little we are among the vastness of nature, as well as how complicated and messy life can be, which makes it great. Sometimes in life, you will ask yourself what you want; consider it a psychic journey or whatever you choose.

A really motivating movie with hopes, emotions, sentiments, and an incredible journey that we can’t even imagine. This self-discovery about hope movie will encourage you if you are a hiker, a depressed person, or anyone else.

The Vow (2012)

Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in The Vow (2012)
Source: Filmaffinity.com

The Vow is a romantic drama movie that Michael Sucsy directed. As Paige and Leo Collins, Rachel McAdams, and Channing Tatum are featured in the film.

What is the best part of a movie?
It is inspired by Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, a real-life family.

The couple’s life falls at the start of the story. Paige is in a coma after being involved in a car crash. Paige awakens with no memory of her past. Sees her husband (Leo) right in front and calls him a doctor. Couldn’t understand and had no memory of Leo. So, the film starts with many questions.

I don’t want to throw any spoilers away. Still, you should watch it because Leo has hope and makes every effort to recover her memory.

I’m not a fan of romantic movies since they’re boring and have blaa stories, and this one is no exception. However, the movie’s base and inspiration are excellent, and you will not be disappointed.

The Book of Eli (2010)

Denzel Washington in The Book of Eli (2010)
Source: Warner bros

The Hughes Brothers’ The Book of Eli is a post-apocalyptic movie featuring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, and Mila Kunis.

The story focuses on Eli (Denzel Washington), a traveler in a post-apocalyptic society. He is ordered by a message to take his edition of a secret book to a secure area in the American West.

Yes, it looks silly, but I enjoy the movie’s settings, music, acting, and actions. This entire film is visually fascinating and paints a gorgeous vision of a post-apocalyptic era. Even heroes may be ordinary people like us. They can sometimes motivate us to do anything for a better purpose and keep our hopes.

Don’t expect much philosophical value from this movie; it is only a fictional tale with a focus on entertainment.

This film is for people who enjoy these genres and Denzel Washington. If you like movies like Maze Runner and Mad Max, you will enjoy this about hope movie.

Conclusion: About Hope Movies

Sometimes having hope binds our history and today to tomorrow.

We have an image of what we want to see. Whether it works or not, simply thinking about it might cause us to feel better. Even if you have any influence over it, like the students working to break out of hardship, hope might inspire you to take the necessary steps. Hope is key to the practice of living life.
